About LPVA
Who we are
Founded on 13 May 2025, Laboratories of Performance and Visual Arts is an intellectual, cultural and artistic association bringing together creative practice and scholarly and applied research. It approaches the margins as a space for experimentation and for questioning aesthetic centralities, while continually rethinking and valuing national heritage in its tangible and intangible forms.
Our vision and intellectual approach
Art is not merely expression; it is a tool for change, and change is a horizon for thought and experimentation.
We see art as more than entertainment: it is a position towards the world and a means of rebuilding relationships between individuals and society, and between authenticity and modernity. Our project questions traditional structures and creates new expressive spaces that open horizons for critical thinking and engage freely with contemporary identities and knowledge.
The association’s objectives
As set out in the association’s statutes.
Artistic production and promotion
Produce and promote artistic work for adults and children nationally and internationally, and organise festivals, performances, exhibitions, artist residencies and scholarly seminars.
Valuing local identity and national heritage
Work with local oasis heritage — ksour, kasbahs, oases and khettara water systems — and intangible traditions such as Baldi art, Malhun and storytelling, extending to national heritage in all its forms.
Democratising cultural and artistic rights
Engage women, children, young people and all parts of society in artistic activities, strengthening their capacities in both urban and rural settings.
Research and academic publishing
Expand research in the arts, culture and heritage in partnership with universities, and publish peer-reviewed articles, books and scholarly works.
Tourism development and environmental awareness
Promote tourist and archaeological sites through artistic creation as a driver of development, and foster environmental and ecological awareness.
Inclusion and cultural engagement in institutions
Develop projects for school and university students, people in prison, child protection centres and social care institutions.
Expansion and development of laboratories
Create specialist-led clubs and laboratories for artistic production and research, and establish association branches across Morocco.
